The college launched a newly redesigned athletics website today at www.lagrangepanthers.com.
Sports Information Director John Hughes coordinated the redesign with the PrestoSports, which originally helped launch the website in 2010. He says he is pleased with result of the continued partnership.
“We felt like it was the perfect time to make our website more modern,” said Hughes. “The new pages provide an easy-to-navigate experience. It will help in all facets of the athletic experience for our current and prospective student-athletes.”
The upgraded interface has a contemporary and interactive feel.
“The finished product looks outstanding, and we cannot wait to see the impact that this will have on our department,” said Athletic Director Jennifer Claybrook. “This will give our stakeholders a first-class experience and have a positive impact in the way our fans experience LaGrange College athletics.”
The website features a scoreboard at the top of each of the sport pages and provides more emphasis on social media and a user-friendly experience from smartphones.
The prominent scoreboard offers results and upcoming games in a rotating fashion, with direct links to recaps, box scores, video broadcasts and live statistics.
The new pages’ responsive design adapts to the user’s device, rendering pages cleanly on smartphones and tablets. With most of the site’s traffic coming from mobile devices, such compatibility is vital and allows Panther fans to get their sports news in a variety of ways.
The website also provides direct access to the Panthers’ Instagram, Twitter and Facebook feeds.
“It’s great that our site has changed with the times and has put a more prominent emphasis on social media,” said Assistant Sports Information Director Trevor Wenners. “We believe that this will drive traffic back and forth between our website and social-media channels. The mobile experience has also improved dramatically in terms of readability and text composition in articles.”
The background depth on the site’s landing page drives attention to the story rotator, which will cycle through five stories. Once users click through to a specific team, they’ll find more content for each program. The scoreboard, photo albums and rotator will be sport specific on the team pages.
The new design provides traditional sports-information materials, including rosters, schedules, statistics, news and historical archives. It also features the athlete of the week, Athletic Training Department, Hall of Fame and Panther Club. Made up of donors to the sports program, the Panther Club has played a vital role in raising the profile of LC athletic programs and giving student-athletes additional resources.
For future Panthers, the website offers easy access to recruitment forms and an ability to get in contact and learn about coaches.
“The first impression for student-athletes is crucial to the recruitment process,” said Claybrook. “I am confident that this upgraded design will keep us competitive and give us an advantage over other NCAA Division III institutions.”
As local and state candidates made campaign stops in LaGrange, several students took the opportunity to meet and talk with them. Nia Johnson and Caleb Tyler talked with the Rev. Raphael Warnock, and Madison Demkowski met Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Rep. Doug Collins, while Tamino Schoffer got a chance to talk with Ga. Sen. Randy Robertson at a rally for Sen. David Perdue.
Mark your calendars for two video productions premiering soon. On Nov. 13, Theatre Arts will present “Medea” and “Antigone,” the two Greek dramas performed earlier this semester - more about that in next week’s @lagrange. Also, a special recording of the annual Lessons and Carols will premiere on Dec. 6. The Nov. 20 issue of @lagrange will provide additional information.
Dr. Kelly Veal, Assistant Professor in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, will be the featured speaker at the Chamber of Commerce's Early Bird Breakfast on Tuesday. She will be discussing the state’s current mental health crisis and how to be an advocate for mental wellness in the workplace.
The Counseling Center continues to offer virtual anxiety groups at 3 p.m. Wednesdays and 2 p.m. Fridays. Students can contact Bobbi West-Stemple at 706-880-8269 to reserve a spot for the anxiety groups. Each group will only allow for 20 students.
Students Lincoln Anderson, Jordan Stowe, Phillip Davis and Megan French have been working as interns with Twin Cedars to promote and expand its “Flip the Switch” virtual campaign. “We are trying to raise the percentage of adults who have completed the Darkness to Light training in Troup County,” said Phillip. “It is a free course that trains participants how to recognize the signs of child abuse and how to help.” For more information, contact Phillip at pdavis4@lagrange.edu.
Don’t forget the Fall Service Saturday tomorrow (Nov. 7). Students, faculty and staff volunteers will partner with the City of LaGrange for its “Leaving LaGrange Better than We Found It” anti-litter campaign. Register for Service Saturday. Registered participants will meet at 7:30 a.m. on the library plaza for a brief orientation before dividing into teams and traveling to LaGrange Academy for the event.
