A college of the United Methodist Church
LaGrange College’s church relationship is strong and reaches back to the 1800s. Methodist clergy and laity were crucial in the institution’s founding, and in 1856 the Methodist Episcopal Church South officially took ownership of the college.
Today, the college is connected to the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, and is affirmed by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church.
The college’s mission of challenging minds and inspiring souls calls for it to support “students in their search for truth,” and to prepare them “to become successful, responsible citizens who aspire to lives of integrity and moral courage.”
In addition to scholarships offered by LaGrange College to students attending United Methodist churches or whose parents are ordained ministers within the church, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry also offers financial assistance to students who are members of a United Methodist church.
Each year an outstanding LaGrange faculty member is awarded the United Methodist Church General Board of Higher Education and Ministry Exemplary Teacher of the Year Award.
